Sabrent didn't respond to my e-mail plea for help. The computer didn't recognize it and the mini cd supplied is for PC's only. The good news is the seller took it back without a question. I had great hopes of using my vintage HP LaserJet Plus printer (which still works perfectly) with my new IMac (OS X). I dowloaded the necessary driveware from HP and ordered this cable based on description and reviews.
You need to remember to designate THE VERY LAST (most recently added) virtual port on your list of ports in the wizard. Therefore, I wanted to hook up an additional printer to my laptop to use when the quality was not important. When it asks you to designate a port, remember that it is a "virtual port". Windows XP found the print drive for my old printer immediately, so I did not have to use the CD that came with the cable.

The only problem I had was with Windows Add Printer Wizard. It does not appear that the cable slows anything down while printing. The Dell printer uses up ink cartridges quickly and the cartridges are expensive. I have a very old Canon BJ200e printer and I can refill the ink cartridge myself (which can't be done with the new Dell printer).
The people at BuyDirect could not have been nicer. When I explained the situation they gave me a full refund including the shipping. I purchased this product to connect an older parallel printer to a new computer with only USB ports. As their policy states they happily give refunds, no questions asked. This is a company I would use in the future. The idea was wonderful but useless. After many phone calls with Canon and HP it was determined the printer was too old to be compatible.
It was unnecessary to load the drivers that came on the mini-CD which ships with the cable (thankfully, since it wouldn't have worked in the slot-loading CD/DVD drive, anyhow).I'm a happy customer. OS X recognized the printer immediately, and I was able to successfully print several documents. This product worked perfectly (printing to an HP LaserJet 4P) for a brand new 15.4" Mac Book Pro and a two year old 17" MBP, both with Leopard. I simply plugged the cable into the USB port on the MBP and then the printer.
My HP desktop Vista64 recognized and been working fine last six months. Cheap price, I plugged it into my old Lexmark Optra R+ and connected to my USB2.0 hub.
